The Weight of The Human Head
Ten pounds
Ten little pounds
She is trying
My God, is she trying
To look
Up
To keep her
Balance
To not drown
In her tears
She keeps
moving.
Though
Weary
Exhausted
Tired
Her neck muscles
Giving way
To the pressure
Of all that it holds.
All of who she is.
She is tumbling
In to the air
That will not catch her
She is not surprised
The fall happened years ago
The ground simply had not received her
Yet
Sprawled on her back
She gives way
To all that has worn her down
Her head
No longer needing holding up
Staring up at the trees
Then closing her eyes for the longest sleep
Ten pounds
Ten little pounds
She tried
My God, did she try
This is the weight of the human head
